Curriculum

During classes, we learn with fun: hands-on activities, songs, poems, speaking, games, practice sheets, writing and repetition. The activities are meant to engage the oral and writing comprehension and speaking. Upper grades will be assigned fun cultural projects. French grammar is introduced in 2nd grade.

Videos and language lab are used for cultural purpose, speaking and listening practice, grammar, vocabulary, reading and comprehension. Kindergartners and first graders do not have French lab sessions. This allows them to develop computer and reading skills before using Rosetta Stone or other programs used for French lab sessions. Students of all grades are welcome to practice basic vocabulary and idiomatic expressions on my Quizlet page. (See TOOLS AND RESOURCES section)

Homework is assigned to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th graders during the regular class of the week, due the 2nd class of the week (French Lab). Credit is given to the students for turning in their homework and practicing.

My goal for the students is not only to learn French words and grammar, but to feel comfortable discovering other cultures and learning other languages. There is a strong connection between the English and French language that helps the students understand and learn their own language. Learning other languages expands the mind and opens opportunities. I hope that learning French with me will give them the will to pursue learning French or another foreign language once in middle school or high school and to develop a love for travel.
